LJ Dentistry LLC - Our Doctors
I love being a member of such a well respected community of professionals. I strive to be the best dentist I can be through education and service to my community. Organized dentistry has a strong voice within healthcare and I’m proud to be a part of it. We are constantly working to improve not only the dental health of our community but their overall health as well. The effort we put in to educating and treating our patients everyday will benefit their health for the rest of their lives.
I focus on speaking to my patients as equals and strive to be attentive to their needs and concerns while conveying what I feel is important to their dental health. I hope to give my patients the quality dental care they expect and deserve, and I treat them as I would my family. I hope to have each patient leave our office feeling that they have received the best dental care available.
Being a general dentist, it is important to be involved in continuing education of all kinds. I attend both local and out of town seminars and conferences regularly. Dental technology moves at a fast pace. It is important to attend continuing education to keep up with the latest advancements in order to provide the best care possible for my patients.
I was born and raised in the Quad Cities and graduated from United Township High School in 1996. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2000 and earned my Doctorate of Dental Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2004.
The Quad Cities community is very important to me, and it is a pleasure to be able to give back to the community through dentistry. I have served as a board member for the Rock Island District Dental Societyand served as president for the 2011-2012 year. I participate in several charitable efforts such as the Give Kids a Smile Program, Bethany Mobile Dental Bus Clinic program, and the Christina’s Smile program associated with the PGA tour and the John Deere Classic.
My wife, Catherine, and I have been married since 2006. We have two beautiful daughters named Ella and Emmy. In my free time I enjoy exercising, playing basketball and golf, and watching movies. I am also an avid fan of my alma mater, the Fighting Illini.
I love being a dentist. I have enjoyed working with my hands ever since I was a child customizing model cars and airplanes. The fun was in the creative process of design solutions. I guess I could have gone into engineering but I was drawn to people and using that creative process to provide dental health care solutions for people. To the lay person, it may seem that “teeth are teeth” but really, absolutely every person and their mouth is different and requires a unique approach. Quality dentistry requires good problem solving skills – you look at each person’s needs and wants and design something that makes sense for them both functionally and cosmetically.
Additionally, I love meeting people who come to see me for care and developing relationships with them and their families. There is something to learn from everybody. This also helps me in providing their customized care.
I was born and raised in Moline where my father was a teacher in the Moline school system for 35 years. I graduated from Moline High School in 1968 and went to the University of Illinois. In 1975, I received my dental degree. After graduation, I was a dental officer in the US Navy serving with the Fleet Marine Force in California and Okinawa, Japan. I came back to Moline and opened my office in February 1980. Ever since that time, I have enjoyed learning by taking many continuing education programs, courses, and workshops. I earned my Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2006 and am presently finishing up a Frank Spear Restorative Dentistry Continuum at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry.
My wife, Pam, and I have been married for 33 years and have one son, Tom, who graduated from Augustana College in 2010. In my spare time, I enjoy almost all sports and continue to be humbled by golf!
